Digital Public Relations
Public Relations a term has been around longer than most of us using it today for sure. There is a term that I have started using that I am sure is not new but it is definitely one you will be hearing soon enough. It’s really just a spin on two industry services that I see heading for a collision. One term is “public relations“, the other is “search engine optimization“. Why search engine optimization? I picked that one because it is a way to rank highly in the search engines. If you think about it the two go hand in hand already. Public Relation is getting your face or company’s face into the public eye as much as possible. Search engine optimization or SEO as it is called is just finding a way to get your digital media (websites, social network profiles, etc.) into the forefront of the search engine lists. This means that your company or website is being presented to more of an audience as a better choice.
Mixing the two together makes sense. I am simply putting more of an emphasis on the digital or internet aspect of this marriage. More and more people are moving towards websites and more imortantly social media for their public face.
Social media sites such as facebook and twitter have exploded onto not only the internet but also TV and print media. Facebook alone has over 200 million users.
Social media sites such as facebook and twitter have exploded onto not only the internet but also TV and print media. Facebook alone has over 200 million users.. Its hard to find a website today that doesn’t boast a facebook or twitter link on it. Most people need and probably already utilize digital public relations even if they do not know it.
I propose that we can take your digital public relations to the next level. Why stop at just head shots for actors or ads on the side of a webpage for businesses. Wny not have a mixture of twitter and facebook profiles for your employees as well as blogs for your company departments to increase your daily, weekly, monthly internet exposure. More is better when it comes to the internet. Another term I am trying to coin is “Crushing”. I believe in the Bruce Lee method of fighting the internet battles of taday. His method was this, “The best defense is a perfect offense.” I believe that it is not enough to have a topten placement for industry terms in Google. Why not have 10 out of the top ten in any given idustry term search. You could have your main website show up for one spot, your blog show up for another and then maybe a profile or forum entry showup below them. We probably shouldn’t stop there let’s have several blogs and several blog entries fill in the other spots. Now we’re moving. If played right you could own the entire page and therefore stop your enemies advances (entries) altogether. If you are the only choice then your competition doesn’t stand a chance.
So strong is the pull from these social media giants that they have now pulled cell phone manufacturers into designing phones specifically with their websites in mind.
Social media is not just for the teeny bopper girls down the street. Social media has taken over the internet as an unstoppable force.
Social media is not just for the teeny bopper girls down the street. Social media has taken over the internet as an unstoppable force. We can either accept and integrate this ever changing media or get clobbered by it. Most of my clients laugh when I tell them that I get most of my business from my 15+ blogs. They don’t laugh when they see my blogs outrank most of the world’s largest advertisng and design agencies main websites. This process could be repeated even easier for lesser internet based markets. For individuals trying to do Public relations, I have an example for you: ME. Jared Sturgill in google yields some 50,000+ entries. I own pretty much the top 50 or so entries (sometimes more moretimes less). This could be applied to any one given word, term, or name. That is something that every business can utilize.
