Dallas Search Engine Marketing - SEM - Services

What is Search Engine Marketing?

Dallas Search Engine Marketing has the same goal as search engine optimization. The goal is to drive prospects and therefore sales to your websites. The real difference between the two is the approach and the cost.

How does Search Engine Marketing work?

Search Engine Marketing or SEM, is a paid advertising campaign on any given search engine. One of the most common and widely used is Google's adwords. This services lists a small ad of a a heading and a few words on the side of a SERP (search engine results page). Your ad is posted on a serp that corresponds to keywords that you predefine when you setup your campaign. Then everytime your ad is listed and someone clicks on it a debit of a certain amount is taken away from your account. You have to prepay a certain amount to have your ad listed and clicked on. Usually you have a preset limit based on your prepaid amount. Once that amount is gone however your campaign is over.

The placement of your ad is based on a bidding process. Although you cannot directly see what your competitors are bidding for a position you can test to see how high you need to go in order to outrank their ad. This can in some instances exceed $10 or more PER CLICK. This is not always the case , and in fact is not the norm at all. but ut can and does happen.

The real difference

This is where the real difference between search engine "optimization" and "marketing" really comes into play. SEM requires an almost constant supply of money to keep it going. When the funds run out your placements and therefore traffic stops immediately as well. With Organic or Natural SEO it is not started or stopped overnight. If done properly SEO will help you continue to rank long into the future whether you are actively working a campaign or not.

With all of that being said, SEM definitely has its place and time. Money can definitely be made and be made quickly utilizing a pay-per-click campaign. For instance, an SEO campaign to get to the top of the rankings can take months of work to achieve. A pay-per-click campaign can be started at any moment with the right funds. PPC is generally used at the start of a website campaign to generate initial traffic, public awareness and funds. These funds are often funnelled back into the campaign to keep it going until the Natural SEO campaign starts to overtake its PPC counterpart.

INTERESTING FACT!

People will generally click on a "Natural" leftside listing nearly 2 to 1 over a PPC listing on the rightside!
